      Some rocks are formed from sands and muds becoming compressed over time (sedimentary rocks); other rocks are formed from lava and magma which comes from volcanoes (igneous rocks); a third type of rock is metamorphic rock which is formed by putting sedimentary or igneous rocks under a lot of heat and pressure.
