Some plants are poisonous due to the chemicals (toxins) produced by those plants. Those plants are poisonous for humans and some are poisonous for animals whereas some are for other plants. There is a long list of plants classified as poisonous including Hemlock. Those plants produce poison (toxin) to avoid predators.
